Rituals of the Lohri Festival • Lohri is a famous festival in Punjab and Haryana, although it is now celebrated enthusiastically in other parts of the country as well. On this day farmers thank God, who increases crop production. • In some parts of Punjab there is also a tradition of flying kites on this day. During the Lohri festival, children go from door to door singing folk songs and people give them sweets and money. • On this day, children are given sugar, gajak, jaggery, peanuts, maize, etc. because it is believed that they should not leave home empty-handed.
