Quezon City as the City of Stars
Heralded as the City of Stars, Quezon City continues to shine bright—both as a sustainable residential suburb and a bustling industrial hub.

Bearing the same moniker as a former Philippine President, the city was named after President Manuel Luis Quezon, who selected the site in 1939. The area was once a private estate before it was converted into a city.

Today, it is known for being the biggest city in Metro Manila when it comes to land areas. While the city is often confused with a province in Region 4 that bears the same name, Quezon City has distinct and remarkable traits that set it apart from the province.

Living in the most progressive city
With Quezon City regarded as one of the more highly urbanized cities in the Philippines, it is slated to have its businesses grow exponentially in the following years. It is home to a cross-section of Filipinos, including people working in the information tech industry and the rising OFWs. In this regard, existing and prospective residents have a lot more to look forward to.

As the city is lovingly referred to as the City of Stars, it should come as no question that several local Filipino stars are billeted in Quezon City as well, considering its proximity to most major studios (TV network juggernauts GMA and ABS-CBN). The general ambiance of Quezon City is pretty much like a cross between an exciting cosmopolitan and a thriving industrial hub.

As a result, it attracts individuals with diverse personalities from all walks of life. Indeed, while Quezon is often regarded as the City of the Stars, this multi-faceted city can also be considered the city of dreams.

Facts about Quezon City
Quezon City was once the capital of the Philippines from 1948 to 1976. In 1948, the city was declared as the country’s capital. However, former President Ferdinand Marcos signed a decree that transferred the title to Manila in 1976.
The largest shopping mall in the Philippines and the third largest mall in the world, SM City North EDSA is located along EDSA in Quezon City.
Melchora Aquino is one of the beloved Filipina heroes in the Philippines. Tandang Sora, as she was lovingly called, had a pivotal role in the Katipunan. In recognition of her efforts during the revolution, an entire Quezon City district (and even a street in San Francisco, California) are named after her. She also has her own respective National Shrine in Banlat, Quezon City, her hometown.
Quezon City should have been called Balintawak City, named after the “Cry of Balintawak” on August 23, 1896. However, through the proposal of Assemblymen Eugenio Perez and Narciso Ramos, the city was named after then-President Manuel L. Quezon to honor the latter.
By far, Quezon City is the largest city in the country—both by area and population. In fact, it is so big that apart from Manila, it is the only city to have its very own police district named after it (QCPD) since day one. Other cities would conventionally use the usual directional police district.
