All of your teeth contribute to your ability to chew, speak and maintain ideal alignment of your other teeth. If you lose permanent teeth, replacing them can help maintain proper function of your mouth. Dr. Rohini Singh provides many options for restoring lost teeth.

A dental bridge can be used to replace missing teeth. This restoration attaches replacement teeth to the adjacent natural teeth, which are called abutment teeth. Dental bridges can be permanently attached (as fixed bridges), or they can be removable.
Fixed bridges are anchored by placing dental crowns onto the abutment teeth. Removable bridges are attached to the natural teeth with metal clasps or other attachments.
If you have one or more missing teeth, you should know of the importance of replacing teeth to your appearance and dental health. Your teeth work together to allow you to eat and speak with comfort. If teeth are missing, these once simple tasks can be more difficult. Missing teeth can be easily replaced with dental bridges.

What is a dental bridge or a fixed partial or denture?
A dental bridge, also called a fixed partial denture, is used to bridge the gap caused by missing teeth. As a fixed dental bridge is bonded into place, it can only be removed by a dental professional. As the name implies, removable dental bridges can be taken out to be cleaned. Fixed dental bridges can offer more stability than removable dentures.

Why is a dental bridge important?
A dental bridge can restore the beauty and functionality of your smile. A dental bridge can also support your lips and cheeks, thus preserving facial structure. The loss of a tooth can cause drifting of the surrounding teeth, changes in your bite and an increased risk of gum disease. When teeth are missing, unusual stress is placed on the gums where teeth are missing. This can cause a variety of harmful disorders in the oral cavity.

How is a dental bridge placed?
Placing a dental bridge takes up to two appointments at Clear Creek Family and Cosmetic Dentistry. During the first appointment, the teeth on either side of the missing tooth are shaped to allow room for the dental bridge.
Dr. Singh will take impressions of your teeth so that your dental bridge can be constructed specifically for your smile.
Once your dental bridge is ready, it will typically be cemented to the natural teeth on either side of the gap. The pontic, or false tooth, replaces the missing tooth. Dental crowns are cemented onto the natural teeth surrounding the gap to support the dental bridge.
