What is Monkeypox ?
Monkeypox is a rare viral disease caused by the monkeypox virus. It is similar to smallpox (which has been eradicated), but generally less severe. Symptoms include fever, headache, muscle aches, backache, swollen lymph nodes, chills, and exhaustion, followed by the development of a rash. The disease is primarily found in Central and West Africa, where it is spread to humans from animals such as rodents and primates. It can also be spread through contact with an infected person’s skin or bodily fluids. There is no specific treatment for monkeypox, but the symptoms can be managed with supportive care. The World Health Organization recommends vaccination against smallpox as a preventative measure for people at high risk of monkeypox.
