7 steps to prepare for a viewing
Did you spend days getting your home prepared for when it went on the market? Did you clean from top to bottom? Every nook and cranny got a tickle with the duster? I bet the garden was pristine, your windows were sparkling, your bedding fresh. In fact, you put your all into making sure your home was as wonderfully presented as possible. You probably carried on for quite a while whilst you were caught up in the excitement of selling your home. Before every viewing you spend time preening and preparing your home to show home standards.
A few months may have passed and your viewings have dropped off. This is perfectly normal. When a house goes up for sale there is usually a flurry of keen viewers, as the weeks and months go by this dies down. When this happens it’s easy to lose motivation and maybe you are not putting as much energy into preparing your home before a viewing as you used to. It’s an effort cleaning and preparing and you may be wondering what’s the point as it hasn’t got you anywhere so far?
Try not to lose heart and enthusiasm, you just never know who the person is that is going to walk through the door. You don’t know what their likes and dislikes are going to be. You won’t know the situation they’re in or motivation for moving. With each viewing you are a little further on to selling. Treat each one with as much enthusiasm as you did in the early days. Put as much effort into preparing your home as you did then. I promise you that this is one of the best things you can do to sell your home. Keep on track and your hard work is likely to pay off.
To help you keep focused, here are my top tips to prepare your home for a viewing. Why not print this out and keep it to hand so you can quickly refer back?
1. Declutter – clutter and mess can be distracting for a viewer and can make rooms look smaller. Make sure your viewer can see the space your home offers by getting rid of the clutter. For a quick fix, grab a big box or washing basket, go around your home and put anything that shouldn’t be there in the box. Put the box or washing basket in your garage, shed or car until the viewers have gone.
